Our Celtic Series Wines

Derek’s family (the Fitzgerald’s and the McGrath’s) hail from Ireland so we have embraced our shared Celtic heritage with our Premium wine range called the Celtic Series. These wines feature Irish Mythological characters who are majestic and mischievous.

The Celtic Series wines are from single vineyard sites and are the pinnacle of each vintage. They will only be produced in the best years. They have the trademark elegance and finesse of all the Paisley Wines and are built for medium to long term cellaring. They offer more of everything, with intense concentration of fruit, richness with depth and texture, fine tannins and seamless oak.

2016 Celtic Series Clurichaun Mataro

What is a Clurichaun (Clar-i-corn) you might well ask?

Well think of a very bad tempered Leprechaun, they are cousins after all, who lives in the wine cellar underneath the house. Legend tells us that if you are kind to the dear little fellow, the Clurichaun will look after your wine stocks, but if mistreated, will cause strife and drink you out of house and home!  Hmm... I think we have one of those in our house!

The 2016 Clurichaun Mataro was not a wine we intended to make, but the fruit looked too good just to be blended away.  It comes from an elevated site with sandy soils over limestone in the Southern part of the Barossa. This exceptional Single Vineyard wine displays all the characters of a classic Barossa Mataro. The nose is lifted with savoury fruit characters, earthy notes and Indian spices like cardamom and cloves. The palate has great complexity with blackberries, blueberries and hints of Kalamata olive. The toasty oak adds mouthfeel and texture, as do the fine grain tannins. The wine finishes long with roasted meats and berry fruit. Drink now or cellar for up to ten years.

2016 Maeve Single Vineyard Shiraz

We had some difficulty naming our shiraz, in fact we tossed out more names that you can imagine. It needed to be a majestic name because our 2016 Maeve Shiraz is a majestic wine, so we ended up naming the wine after a goddess with links to sovereignty. The name Maeve means "she who intoxicates" and has links to the word "mead" an ancient wine.

The 2016 Maeve Shiraz comes from a select parcel of grapes in the Moppa sub region of the Barossa Valley. The red clay soil with scattered ironstone and quartz, combined with the elevated site, produces grapes of great finesse but with excellent fruit weight and definition. This wine has intense berry fruits with a floral lift and a hint of nutty oak. The palate is plush, dense and textured with an amalgam of flavours, vibrant berry fruit, dark chocolate and sweet spices like cinnamon and cloves with toasty mocha oak. The palate is balanced with velvety tannins and finishes with great length of berry fruit. A wine that will cellar for ten to fifteen years.
